Summit County Executive

Russ Pry serves as the chief executive officer of Summit County government and oversees an annual budget of over $570 million. County departments under Executive Pry's authority include administrative services, communications, community and economic development, environmental services, finance and budget, human resources, insurance and risk management, job and family services, law, and the medical examiner.

Since being appointed to the position of Summit County Executive, Pry has focused a significant amount of attention on improving local economic development. Along with city and state public officials, Pry has played a leading role in keeping Bridgestone Firestone North America Tire, LLC and the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in the city of Akron. Together, the retention projects kept over 4,000 jobs in Summit County.

In addition to keeping big-name employers in our community, Executive Pry's Economic Development Task Force has assisted in the retention of 7,853 jobs and the potential creation of 16,951 new employment opportunities for our local workforce.

Under Pry's leadership, a new $2.2 million Summit County Veterans Service Commission (VSC) Center was  constructed on East Waterloo Road in Akron, as well as a new, $2.96 million, state-of-the-art, high- performance green facility to house the Summit County Division of Animal Control.

Besides the accomplishments noted above, Executive Pry has distributed over $48 million in American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds throughout the community. The federal dollars were used to finance capital improvement projects, issue energy efficiency and conservation grants, perform infrastructure upgrades, and develop workforce investment programming.

To date, Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry has been honored by Akron/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau, Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank, East Akron Community House (EACH), Hospice of Visiting Nurse Services, Northeast Ohio Joint Office of Economic Development (JOED), and numerous other organizations throughout the community.
