SNAP Replacement Benefits - Power Outage/Food Loss

If you are a SNAP recipient and your household has experienced a misfortune (such as a fire or flood, or a power outage lasting more than four hours) that results in a loss of food, you may be eligible for SNAP replacement benefits.

Who is eligible for replacement benefits?

To be eligible, an individual or household must have received SNAP food assistance benefits during the month in which the disaster occurred.

How are these benefits provided?

Replacement SNAP benefits are added to recipients' Ohio Direction Cards. To receive the benefits, households must complete the JFS 07222 Statement Requesting Replacement of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Benefits within 10 days of the loss. Fax completed form to 866.351.8292 or e-mail the form to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

How much will households receive?

Households will receive replacement SNAP benefits for the amount of food the household reported lost or destroyed, as long as it does not exceed their monthly SNAP allotment. If automatic replacement benefits are issued to everyone within an affected area, the amount is determined based on the date on which the disaster occurred and the amount of time left in the month.
