Stephen Zimmerman

A native of Scotland, Mr. Zimmerman was raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. In 1963, he began a naval career that spanned more than 30 years. During that time frame, he served initially as an enlisted Cryptologic Technician. After earning his Bachelor of Science Degree, he worked in the development and manufacturing of airborne radar systems. Shortly thereafter, he received his commission as an officer and commenced Navy flight training. After earning his wings, he flew carrier-based fighter aircraft and subsequently served as a flight instructor for new naval aviators just entering the fighter jet community.

After a brief hiatus to assist his family in their union electrical construction business, Mr. Zimmerman returned to active duty with the Navy and managed recruiting programs at both the regional and national levels. Continuing his education, he also earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration. In late 1994, he retired as a Navy Captain and relocated to the Portage Lakes area in the City of Green, Ohio.

Mr. Zimmerman enjoyed several years in retirement before taking a management position with Summit County's Department of Human Services (now Department of Job and Family Services) in March of 2000. He has been serving as Assistant Director for Administration and Finance for the agency since January of 2007.

Mr. Zimmerman is married to the former Sally Ann Antalek of Uniontown, Ohio, whom he met during a tour of duty at the Ravenna Arsenal. They have four children: Stephen, Janet, Holly, and Christopher--- and ten grandchildren.
